Lovely Stones

Picture of Stones

This afternoon we had a socially distanced visit from Amity, Buster and Scarlett Keegan. They gave us a bag and inside were the most lovely stones. there was a chicken coming out of an egg, a man on the beach with a crab and a shark and there was a tiger. Can you spot the tiger?

Three more stones arrived today!

Just look at these everyone.  What amazing talent we have in the village.  These were done by 3 adult residents and they are absolutely gorgeous.  We have a stunning Octopus from Lesley Norman, a beautiful flower filled stone from Pat Norman and a Badger in the moonlight from Jane Kavanagh.  They really are something to see.  Can’t wait to have them out on the stone hunt trail for you all to admire close up.

The Countdown is on!

Yes, its getting exciting, its less than 3 weeks until Easter, and the Painted Stone Hunt!  Thank you so much to all the lovely people who have offered to paint a stone for the hunt.  We have started to get some of the completed stones back and Wow, they really do look fantastic.  We have some very talented adults and children in the village.

We have put some photographs of some of the completed stones on the website, and its so nice to have some of our new residents taking part.  Thank you to Adam and Vicky, Ed and Gemma and Stefan and Yasmin in particular for offering to take part when you are still trying to unpack and find everything!    We are also very grateful to the staff at Adderley School who got in touch to say that they would like to support by asking the children to paint a stone.  Finding 35 suitable stones was bit of a challenge but we are up for that and they’ve been delivered ready for painting too.

Don’t forget, we would like your completed stone back by 20th March so that we can begin the process of hiding them for the hunt which starts on Good Friday 2nd April and runs through until 11th April.    Also remember that you need to download the What3Words App onto your phone to answer the clue on location of each stone.  There is a  link to the BBC  website here, with a bit more info on the App and what it can do to help  the emergency services.

Become A Parish Councillor

Another chance to join the presentation on becoming a Parish Councillor this Friday on Zoom.

There is an election on May 6th and our current Parish Council has two vacancies. We’re losing a female councillor and we would like to see applications from female members of the Parish.

Meetings are roughly once a month and they last approximately 90 minutes. There’s a little bit of reading but beyond that the amount of time you give is your choice. You can take advantage of Councillor training if you wish and that takes place in Shrewsbury when we aren’t locked down.

Link to the poster for the presentation is below. Please give this some thought we would love to see you volunteer for this worthwhile role in the Parish.

Stones And More Stones

We asked around for volunteers to paint stones for the upcoming stone hunt at Easter. People have responded, the finished stones are starting to come in and they’re amazing. Best of all we’re getting requests for stones from some of the new arrivals in the village. How good is that.

We’ve given out a lot of stones but we still need some more so it you want to have a go just get in touch via niceplacetobe@adderleyparish.co.uk and we will get a stone to you. You can paint abstract or patterns or pictures, it doesn’t matter whatever takes your fancy. You can use water based paints or acrylics whatever you have. Don’t worry we will varnish them for you before they go out for the stone hunt.

Did You Get Your Smartwater?

Smartwater Kit

Smartwater kits have been arriving through letterboxes since Friday. Please read the letter carefully. These Smartwater kits have been pre-registered you don’t have to do anything except mark your valuables and put a sticker in the window.

Not received yours yet? Give it a day or two then if it still hasn’t arrived get in touch with the Parish Council using the contact form on Adderleyparish.co.uk.

Not sure what to do next? Watch the video from Cllr Wilson:

Keeping Your Home Safe With Smartwater

Its all happening in Adderley this year!

Over the next few days you should receive through your door a sheet of information about the ideas we have for activities over the summer in the village.  Here’s a copy if you have somehow missed out.

We really hope you will feel you want to be involved in some, or all of these, starting with the Painted Stone Hunt over the Easter Weekend.  It’s going to be a fun family or individual activity with lots of clues to find beautifully painted stones,  hidden around the village for you to locate.  When you find a stone, you replace it carefully in its location but use the What3Words App on a smart phone to note its unique location on your treasure hunt map.

What3Words is the App being used by emergency services to help locate people who are lost or injured and in need of help.    The emergency services are all encouraging as many people as possible to download this app on to their phones.  Its an amazing app which has created a unique ID for every 3 square metres in the world! Here’s some more information about the App for those of you who haven’t heard of it yet.

However, before we get to the Hunt we need some volunteers to paint the stones that will be hunted.  We would love some unique designs and hope you will be able to offer to do this for us.  Details are on the reverse of the sheet posted through your letterbox if you would like a stone dropping off to paint for us.

The clues are already being written and the map will be available nearer the Easter weekend, either downloaded from the website here, or a paper copy of the map can be picked up from the Book Shelter in the village.  We will let you know via the website and Facebook when they are ready to be picked up.

Adderley – nice place to be!
