Raising The Tree

Ignoring the rain, the wind and the freezing cold a hardy band of volunteers spent their Saturday raising the Christmas tree in readiness for the Adderley Switch On next Friday. Now it’s all ready for the decorations which you can bring tomorrow, the 29th November, and place them on the tree or put them in the box at the bus shelter in Rectory Lane and somebody will put them on the tree for you.

There will be somebody at the tree to help you.

We have been posting items all day on the Adderley Village Facebook page and below is the full story in pictures.

Santa Is Coming …

To say we are excited today would be an understatement!

You will never guess what arrived in the post today – so watch the video to find out…….

So, our Christmas Lights Switch on is looking as if its going to be spectacular with a very important guest to switch the lights on and check out the quality of our village display.

More details to follow about the route, but get those light bulbs polished, make sure the windows are clean and gleaming, check any snowflakes are white and glistening and be outside your house standing to attention, with one hand on the light switch, when our special guest comes through!

Ooh this is going to be fun!

Only 14 Days to go to the Big Switch on! Excitement mounts. We’ve had our first photograph of Christmas Decorations for the Tree from Jenny Wrathall. Jenny has been kind enough to share her creations and they’re an inspiration.

So don’t forget: take a picture of your tree decorations and send them to webmaster@adderleyparish.co.uk Or via FB messenger to Adderley Village and we can include them in the gallery. Many thanks to Jenny for starting the gallery.

Adderley Christmas Tree Decoration Ideas

Well, it’s the weekend, its raining, you are bored, you want a mini project, or you just want to give the children something to do.  Why not use this opportunity to create your own decoration for the village Christmas tree using natural, or recycled household items?

We would love to have every home represented on the tree and we don’t want it to cost you a lot, and we though you might like to give yourself a pat on the back for doing some recycling too!  Our very talented Lesley Hartnell has been busy creating some really simple ideas to inspire you below, but you can go wild and do something extravagant or exotic to really rev up the decorations if you want to.  We would love that.  Just remember they will need to be weatherproof and windproof though.

(Val Nash is going to put some bare willow garlands and a couple of stars outside Willow Lodge in Green Bank for people to pick up if they like the idea but don’t want to make the natural ones themselves.  Keep an eye open!)

Have a look at the ideas below and PLEASE, read the instructions below the gallery as we want to be sure your creations are credited and also, allow people who may not be able to get down to see the tree if they are shielding or housebound, to enjoy seeing who took part.  We really want everyone to feel part of this, event whether they can get out or not, so please offer to help anyone who may be struggling or isolated to take part.  Thank you!

Take a moment to take picture of yourselves making the decoration then when the tree is up and the lights are in place (after weekend of 28th/29th November)  go down and hang your decoration. Once again, don’t forget to take a picture then send them into webmaster@adderleyparish.co.uk and we can have a gallery of your creations.

HAPPY CREATIONS EVERYONE!

The Big Switch On

Adderley Lights Up is a way of everybody sharing in the spirit of the holiday season this Christmas in the face of pandemic restrictions. It’s hoped that in the absence of Carols Round The Village (an important annual fundraiser for Hope House) and the likely ban on singing in the church (a popular Christmas event) as well as the post carol service get-together in the Village Hall we could all share in something meaningful for the festive season and give us our sense of community.

Iain Wilson explains what we’re hoping to do and how you might like to join in.

If you know of somebody who doesn’t have access to the village website or Facebook page please download the flyer and give it to them.

There are four ways to take part:

Light up your garden: More and more people are lighting up their garden at Christmas so why not let your creativity run wild and light up your garden this Christmas so that when families walk around they can share in some of the excitement of Christmas decorations? We are hoping that everybody will switch on their decorations on the 4th along with the village tree.

Decorate a window: If lighting up your garden isn’t for you then why not decorate a window? This can be as simple or as adventurous as you like either traditional scenes or simple decorations placed in the window. It would be wonderful to create a window wonderland so that people walking round the village can enjoy these at the same time as they admire the Christmas lights. We will be putting links to ideas in the coming days to inspire you. The choice is yours. All to be unveiled on the 4th.

Make a decoration for the village tree: be as creative or as traditional as you like. In the coming weeks we will be posting ideas for up cycling household items or your imagination may run to original designs. We are hoping that once the tree is up people will take a picture of themselves hanging their decoration on the tree then we can put a gallery on the website. We will let you know when the tree is ready.

Finally, light up night: we’ve mentioned it already but on Friday December 4th we hope that everybody will switch on their decorations at the same time and light up Adderley. we will publish a route map and families will be able to go around and enjoy the celebrations.

In the coming weeks you will see posters round the village and we will be posting regularly on updates and with ideas.

We are counting down to The Big Switch On.

And The Winners Are?…

After having our heads together for a long while we decided that we couldn’t decide. The pictures submitted for the poster competition were sooooo good that we have decided to use all of them. Yes! All of them.

Congratulations to Scarlett and Buster Keegan, Jacob and Samuel Corner and Amity Keegan whose pictures will appear on the publicity posters around the village for the Adderley Lights Up For Christmas Big Switch On.

Congratulations also to Sophie Corner and Genevieve Alkureshi who’s pictures will appear on the web and social media publicity.

Well done everybody.
