We have been told that there was a broken link in the article about Sunday’s Heritage Trail meeting at the village hall and people couldn’t get to the answers to the Treasure Trail Quiz. we’ve sorted the problem and the link should work fine. Please accept our apologies.

Well to say we are pleased would be an understatement.   Thank you to Geoff Butter who brought along so many wonderful pieces from his collection, photographs, newsclips, video’s, stories and much much more that gave us a sense of the richness of our local history.   Thirty five people attended and browsed the display, chatted to Geoff, shared their own memories, offered items to add to the archive, suggested ways that we might improve our Heritage Lottery Bid.  At the same time they consumed copious amounts of tea and coffee and some absolutely gorgeous cakes made by volunteers for the event. 

We gave them the results of the quiz and if you click here it will take you to the correct answers for your own reference.   However, if you weren’t able to come, you could still help us if you could spare a moment.   You see we need, for the bid, to get a sense of people’s current level of understanding of our heritage and then, if we are successful with the bid, we will repeat the exercise to see if that level has increased.   So if you take the quick survey at the bottom of this post all you have to do is click on the number that best fits with your feeling about your knowledge of local history right now.   That’s it – Simples!   Thank you in anticipation and we will keep you informed as things progress.

Time's up

Sunday 20th March, 10:00 – 12:00 at Adderley Village Hall. Find out the answers to the Heritage Treasure Trail and join us for tea/coffee and cake plus see a sample of the amazing collection of historical photographs and documents from the Geoff Butter collection.

While you’re there we will update you on the bid for funding from the lottery. With that in mind, don’t forget to bring your treasure trail forms because we need your answers to the first two questions to help us with the bid.

We have been contacted by somebody from Hankelow who was running along the canal and through Adderley when he was bitten by a dog who was with its owners but not on a lead. At the time the person brushed off the incident and continued the run but when they got back home it was found that the bites to the back of their legs were bad enough to warrant a visit to the GP surgery where they were dressed and a tetanus injection was administered. The person in question has told us they will be contacting the police.

We would like to remind people that you are responsible for the behaviour of your dog and when meeting people, especially strangers, it is a wise precautionary step to put your dog on a lead until the stranger has passed by. 

Some of you will already know that the village has been offered the most amazing collection of archive documents by ex-resident Geoff Butter who has been collecting Adderley history for over 40 years!  He has offered the village the whole collection and to secure its future we are putting in a Heritage Lottery Fund bid.

With that in mind, you will be receiving through your letter box, over the next few days, a Treasure Trail and accompanying Quiz which we hope you might spend a little time completing. If you walk the Treasure Trail you will follow the proposed Heritage Trail but you can complete the quiz without walking the trail if you like. There are no prizes just glory and cake. We sincerely hope that you will pop along to the village hall on Sunday 20^th March between 10.00 am and 12 noon to find out the correct answers and to see some of this collection and hear about our ideas for the bid for funding. Did we mention that THERE WILL BE CAKE!

There are numerous sites around the village that shape our local history, going back as far as the 11^th Century and we want to preserve their memory in our history for future generations and to give everyone who lives here now a sense of the amazing heritage they have around every corner.  

If you can’t wait to receive the quiz through your door, or you have friends or relatives who might also like to have a go, or who might have memories, stories, artefacts, photographs, newsclippings or anything at all  please send them a link to the quiz and this article.   We would love to see you, your children, your parents or grandparents or distant friends and relations on the 20^th and explore together how we can make this bid work to preserve this special collection.
