Can you help?

Are you interested in the history of our community?  Will you have a little bit of time in these long winter evenings in your armchair when you might be twiddling your thumbs and itching to do something bit more interesting than watching Soaps?

Well, if that sounds like you read on………..

As you know we have been gifted the most amazing collection of historical documents about our village by Geoff Butter.   We have got Lottery Funding to preserve this and have finished building the Heritage website which you can view here.

We’ve had all the images digitised and we have thousands of them to add to the website – there are a small number up already but lots more to come.

We need your help to ‘catalogue’ them so that when they go onto the website anyone searching can find what they are looking for.   It’s a fairly simple job to do and we are giving people training in this so that they feel confident to do this in their own home when it’s convenient to them.    So if you use a computer already, a PC, laptop or Chromebook, and can spare a couple of hours to come to the village hall to be shown what we need it would be great to see you.

First session is set up for Friday 20th October 10.30-12.30 am at the village hall, but there will be others arranged if this is not convenient.  Come along with a laptop or Chromebook but if you don’t have a portable one come anyway but let us know beforehand so that we can organise something for you.

There is one warning though – once you start looking at this material, you very quickly get hooked and forget what you are supposed to be doing as its so fascinating looking at how our community has changed and its rich history!

If you would like more info before committing speak to Val or Paul Nash  07814 071 254 who will be happy to explain it a little more.

There’s An Awful Lot going On!

Coffee Morning Header

Phew! Next Saturday is a busy day. Half of Adderley seems to be going for a flu jab (including me) and it’s the Market Drayton Spice Festival not to forget it’s coffee morning at the Village Hall.

Cakes

So, why not pop in to the Village Hall when you’ve had your flu jab, have a coffee and a piece of cake then tell us all about it. Then when you’ve had your coffee and cake you can go into Market Drayton to the Spice Festival and see what’s what. Saturday sorted.

,We’re looking forwards to seeing everybody after a couple of months absence over the summer; 10:30 to 12:00 at the Village Hall. £2.50 gets you coffee or tea and a piece of homemade cake. What’s not to like.

Coffee Morning Is Back For September!

Coffee Morning Header

It’s been a while but we’re having a coffee morning at the Village Hall on Saturday 30th September, 10:30 ’till 12:00 everybody welcome.

While we’ve been gone people have had holidays, gardens have bloomed, there’s been a glut of tomatoes and courgettes and grand children have been, stayed and handed back to parents. There’s so much to talk about.

So save the date in your diary and we do so look forwards to seeing everybody again.

What are you doing on the long winter evenings ahead?

The nights are drawing in and the days are starting to get a little cooler. If you’re not in the garden or out and about can you spare an hour here and there to help with the Adderley Heritage Project?

We need people to help label the catalogue of documents which have now been digitised by Shropshire Archive and are ready to be uploaded onto the website. To make it possible for people to find information each item has to be catalogued with search terms and key words. This is the sort of thing you can do while having a cup of coffee, listening to the radio or watching TV.

All you need is a laptop (it’s not possible to do this on a tablet or phone) and, ideally, Google Chrome though it can be done on other browsers. We will provide training at the Village Hall  one morning in September to get you started and there’s always somebody available if you need help. The documents offer a fascinating insight into Adderley’s history so the work is interesting as well.

Everything is offline so in the unlikely event that you make a mistake there’s nothing to worry about it can be put right and it’s only uploaded when it’s all finished. What’s not to like?

So, think you can spare a couple of hours here and there? Contact Val Nash by voice, text or What’s App on 07814 071254

Crazy Bowls Cancelled!

Oh No! It’s bad new for dogs with short legs and family bowlers. Such awful weather from Storm Antoni that we’re having to cancel the Crazy bowls. While the hard core bowlers might don their waterproofs and get out there for those of us with flip flops, shorts and a kiss me quick hat this is not the weather for playing bowls and wellies aren’t allowed.

We’re hoping to re-organise for sometime in September when the weather is a lot more forgiving. We’re sorry but feel that people would prefer to be dry and not have to eat soggy burgers.

Hoping to see everybody in September, until then stay dry.

Coffee Morning Cancelled

Coffee Morning Header

We’re having to cancel Saturday’s coffee morning and we’re really sorry. It seems that every one of our lovely volunteers is away, busy or undertaking grandparenting duties (we understand, we’ve been grandparenting all week!)

Coffee orning

This means that we won’t be back until September; such a long time but we’re sure that you will have lots to tell us about when we get back. So missing you lots and looking forwards to seeing everybody in September.
