A Little Help Please

Fruit Tree Header

The Queens Jubilee celebrations will continue with the Queens Green Canopy this September. While we would love to plant a new broadleaf forest unfortunately we just don’t have the capacity. However, the Parish Council will be planting a new tree near the village green with a commemorative plaque in recognition of the jubilee and as a token they will be making available some small fruit trees for members of the community to mark the event by having a tree in their garden. Fruit trees were chosen because not everybody has space for a broad leaf tree.

The fruit trees will be given free to members of Adderley Parish only and they can be planted in the garden or in a suitable container with the right care and preparation. We need your help in deciding how many fruit trees to get. All you have to do is tick the appropriate button below and that’s it. This is not a commitment on your part (that comes later) simply an indication that you might like a tree when they come available.

So, please take a moment to click the button and we will let you know the results in due course.

Would you like a fruit tree?

Update on Adderley Heritage Bid – its been submitted!

As you know Geoff Butter, who grew up and lived in Adderley for much of his life has offered the village the most amazing collection of archive materials about the village and its history. He has been collecting this over the last 50 years.    It truly is a vast collection and everyone who has seen it has been rather overwhelmed by the size, richness  and the the diversity of the materials.  Its our history and it would be awful if it was lost to us.

A group of people from the community decided that it would be worth putting in a Heritage Lottery Bid to preserve this collection for future generations.   This has required an immense amount of work over the last year.  We have submitted the bid which includes a Heritage Trail around the points of interest in the community,  (not intruding on private property), digitisation of all the photographs and articles and other documents about our village going back hundreds of years in some cases,  a website which will host copies of all documents to be easily accessible to all and a variety of other proposals which will include as many people as possible in celebrating our history.

We have pulled together support from all sorts of people and places and if successful in our bid we will be working with them all.   They include Shropshire Archive who will catalogue all the materials and host the most precious and vulnerable artefacts; our school who are very excited to be involved in all sorts of ways, Keele University who hope to support the project with a graduate being involved; The Oral History Society and Storytellers.

Sounds amazing doesn’t it?  However, the bidding process for Heritage Lottery Funding is very very competitive and we have no idea whether our bid will be successful.  The bid is in, the lottery have confirmed receipt and asked us a number of questions for clarification and we now wait for them to consider and tell us.  Yesterday they emailed us to say that this will take up to a month so we have our fingers crossed and hope that it will be a positive response.

If anyone is interested in finding out more please get in touch with webmaster@adderleyparish.co.uk and the information will be passed on.

Up For A Good Walk?

How do you fancy a great walk with lots of interesting things to see? While you’re on you can raise money for the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust. On September 10th 2022 it’s the annual Ride and Stride for Churches. You can plan a walk round nearby churches then get yourself sponsored.

For instance, you could start at Adderley the either walk to Norton in Hales OR you could go to Moreton Say then round to Calverhall and Ightfield. Go as a group then get somebody to pick you up at the end OR do a circular walk. Either way this is a great way to raise money.

The road will be closed between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm each day. Diversions will be in place. There are more details at One Network but you will have to sign in to get the date search options.

Coffee Morning and Plant And Produce Stall

Cakes

How lovely to see so many folk at the coffee morning on Saturday; over 40 people attended, of all ages, and they were treated to some delicious cakes made by volunteers.

It still has to be confirmed but we think that the plant and produce stall made well over £100 and we have to give grateful thanks to Barry, Chris, Pete and Andrea for all of their hard work; not forgetting all who provided contributions and bought from the stall.

The coffee morning made around £70 but we still have one or two expenses to pay. All monies go into the Adderley Community Fund account.

If you would like get involved either volunteering or attending any of the events just have a work with someone in the Nice Place To Be group and you will be made very welcome.
