Update On The A529

The Audlem website has posted an update on the works planned for the A529 from the Cheshire end starting at Audlem. The update is provided by Cllr Rachel Bailey.

“… I am pleased to report that finally investment of the Government Safer Roads monies will commence. However, in spite of continued lobbying, The Old Railway Bridge at Swanbach, is only ear marked for further investigative works.

A road closure has been booked for 5th-11th May.

During this time the culvert at Greys Bridge will be cleared, and further drainage investigation work will take place by the old railway bridge.
This may lead to a future programmed repair once the extent of the issues have been identified.
The Cheshire East element of the DfT Safer Roads funded scheme will also commence during this road closure.

Originally all works were delayed until the infamous Adderley Lights issue was resolved; I will update you once I know if these works signal progress on that matter as well!”

Free Food Hygiene Training Anyone?

kitchen knife on table

As many of you know, its good practice to have a number of people who have taken their Food Hygiene Certificate Training when running events in a community.  Whether its in the village hall, church or out in the community, its always good to know that there is someone there who has done the training.  Its a while since we have updated ours in Adderley and we would like to offer FREE training to anyone interested.

If you are involved with the Church, Hall, Toddler Group, Heritage Group or Nice Place to Be Team, or if you would like to offer to be involved and feel this would be a good thing to have under your belt, please let us know.  We are able to offer up to 12 places using the Community Fund the village has accumulated.   The course will be online, is recognised by  Environmental Health  and takes about two hours, but you can complete this in your own time to suit your circumstances.  A certificate will be provided.    Deadline for booking: WEDNESDAY 13TH APRIL and course must be completed BY 20TH MAY.

To book your place just fill in the form below and we will get back to you with details.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend in Adderley

As you know the Queen’s Jubilee weekend has been confirmed for Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June, with celebrations happening all over the country.  Adderley will be no exception and already we have a number of special events lined up for you to enjoy.

Friday 3rd June, BIG Breakfast – the Nice Place to Be Team are hosting a Big Breakfast in the Village Hall.  The perfect way to start the day when you are on holiday.  For a small charge to cover costs there will be a Full English, (with veggie/vegan options) and we hope you will amble down to join us and let us give you a real treat!   To be honest, we will leave the doors open so that the smell of bacon and sausages will drift across the village and your feet will bring you along!  We will need you to book though, (the thought of telling someone we have run out is more than we can bearBooking details to follow so watch this space!

A Free Fruit Tree! –  We are rather excited to be able to tell you that we are hoping to offer a limited number of fruit trees free to anyone who lives in the Parish of Adderley in support of the Queen’s Green Canopy campaign .   The trees will be distributed at The BIG BREAKFAST on Friday 3rd June.  So have a think, can you find a place for a fruit tree in your garden? We will be asking for numbers closer to the date; first come, first served

Saturday 4th June – There will be a Party on the Green at 4.00pm , with details to be confirmed by the Village Hall.  We are promised entertainment, Crazy Bowls, a bar,  a barbecue and a Bring and Share desserts table.  Tables and chairs to be provided and we will either be in the hall or out in the sunshine, depending on our glorious British weather.

Other Events:  It would be great to have an idea of anything else going on over the weekend.  Are you having a Street Party for example?   Let us advertise it on the website.  If you have any ideas for other events please let us know via Webmaster@adderleyparish.co.uk – we are always up for more people putting forward suggestions and eager to help if we can!

How did it go at the Adderley Heritage Event today?

Well to say we are pleased would be an understatement.   Thank you to Geoff Butter who brought along so many wonderful pieces from his collection, photographs, newsclips, video’s, stories and much much more that gave us a sense of the richness of our local history.   Thirty five people attended and browsed the display, chatted to Geoff, shared their own memories, offered items to add to the archive, suggested ways that we might improve our Heritage Lottery Bid.  At the same time they consumed copious amounts of tea and coffee and some absolutely gorgeous cakes made by volunteers for the event.

We gave them the results of the quiz and if you click here it will take you to the correct answers for your own reference.   However, if you weren’t able to come, you could still help us if you could spare a moment.   You see we need, for the bid, to get a sense of people’s current level of understanding of our heritage and then, if we are successful with the bid, we will repeat the exercise to see if that level has increased.   So if you take the quick survey at the bottom of this post all you have to do is click on the number that best fits with your feeling about your knowledge of local history right now.   That’s it – Simples!   Thank you in anticipation and we will keep you informed as things progress.

If you are interested in getting involved, or know someone who has some documents, some stories, memories or memorabilia please tell us by adding your name to the questionnaire with a contact email or phone number and we will be in touch.     If you could share this article with anyone you know that may be interested in any way, we would be very grateful.

Thank you in anticipation!

Adderley shines yet again! Lovely people have been leaving treasure hunt forms through our letter box and even knocking on the door to tell us about stuff. Amazing or what? If you haven’t done yours yet then please have a go and then come along on Sunday to see if you’re right.

Most important make sure you give us your answers to the first two questions. we need that information for the funding bid – but more about that on Sunday.

Don’t forget, Sunday, 10:00 at the Village Hall. There will be tea/coffee and cake then at 11:00 the answers to the questions. There will also be a chance to have a look at samples of the collection provided by Geoff Butter which form the basis of the heritage trail. This is an exciting moment for Adderley be a part of it.
