Could you share the Quizmas Quiz with your family & friends to raise even more for Hope House?

The Adderley Quizmas raised an amazing £450 for Hope House Childrens Hospice – thank you to everyone who took part.  However, we have thought of a way to make this an even bigger donation if you are interested.

We wondered if you would like a copy of the quiz to share with family and friends and raise even more?  We’ve posted a link to the full quiz here on this page – just click to open the quiz and you can share it with loved ones as a bit of a challenge and some fun.

Our only request is that you make a small donation to Hope House via this link   If you can reference Quizmas in your donation that would be great too but if not, just the fact that you are doing this would be an amazing thing for this wonderful charity.   To find out more about the wonderful work they do click on the video on Slide 3 in the quiz to hear Kat from Hope House talking about some of the amazing things they do for families in Shropshire.

PLEASE PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK WITH EVERYONE YOU CAN.  The more people who know about this, the more chance there is that we can raise even more for Hope House.  Thank you very much. When you see the file click on the download button on the toolbar.

Advance Notification! – Date for the diary

Not content with entertaining you all with the Adderley Switch On, we now bring you another opportunity to get together (virtually) with the Great Adderley Christmas Quiz!  Details to follow later, but can you put the date in your diary now for a family entertainment on Friday 18th December, 7.15 for 7.30pm  Its going to be good, just wait til you hear who is going to host the quiz!

We can’t sing carols to raise money for Hope House Childrens Hospice this year, so we hope you will join us on the quiz with all donations to Hope House.  That would be lovely.

So – are we ready?

One sleep, just one sleep until he gets here to check out our lights!   Who won’t sleep tonight?

Lights are up, polished and shiny and plugged in and ready for inspection

Village Tree is up, decorated and lights are on ready for switch on

Santa has been in touch to confirm he’s definitely coming with 4 elves

Listen out for the Christmas Music as Santa comes round, and make sure those elves see your Christmas lights to check they are working well.

He should be around between 6.30 and 7.00 pm so be ready

Listen…?  What was that…? No, too soon.  Get to sleep now.

Santa is coming to Adderley

Oh my goodness!  Its getting closer!   SwitchOn is nearly here.  In fact its only NINE more sleeps until Santa is coming to check out our lights and Switch on our Christmas Tree.  I don’t know about you, but the excitement in our house is mounting all the time!  Decorations to make, windows to decorate and lights to put up in the garden……  Its just non-stop!

When is the tree going up for our decorations?

Its all hands on deck this Saturday morning (28th Nov) when some volunteers are getting together by the village hall to raise the tree and anchor it in position.  After that they will put a temporary fence around the tree ready for you to come down on Sunday morning (29th Nov) to hang your decorations on the tree.

When can I put my decoration on the tree?

If you can come down between 10.00 am and 1.00pm on Sunday morning there will be someone there to help you but if you can’t make it then, please leave your decorations in the box in the Bus Shelter at the end of Rectory Lane and we will pick them up to take down and hang on the tree.  If you can put your name on your decoration that would be lovely.  Please make sure you have attached something that will allow you to tie your decoration on to the tree securely.  It can get very windy down there and we don’t want to lose yours.

What about the decorations at my house?

We really want everyone to have their Christmas lights and any Window Wonderland displays ready for the big SwitchOn on Friday 4th December.  We think he will start his tour at about 6.30 on Station Road and then visit all the roads in the village from there.   Santa has been in touch and confirmed that he is definitely coming to inspect our Adderley lights display – so exciting.  He will tour around the village, with some of his elves and as he goes past he wants you to put on your Christmas lights so that he can check they are going to be bright enough for Rudolph to see on Christmas Eve.

Can I go down to watch Santa switch on the lights on the tree at the village hall?

We would love to say yes!  But right now we are unsure what the rules are going to be about public gatherings, so we are suggesting that houses with children have priority, and, if they feel its safe to do so, parents can take their children down to the Green for just before 7.00pm, stay socially distanced and watch Santa do the SwitchOn.  We are asking all other adults to stay away, and perhaps come down later in the evening to admire the tree and amble around the village to see everyone’s lights and window displays in a safe and socially distanced way.

Christmas Wreath making opportunity in Adderley!

Snowflake Banner

Adderley School have come up with a wonderful seasonal fundraising idea which will mean you can deck your door with a beautiful home-made wreath whilst raising some much needed funds for Adderley School.  A win/win situation we think!

There are two options on offer, and both will give you an amazing home-made wreath that you can hang with pride on your door for all to admire.

Option One:  A ring with all the greenery already in place, and supplied with a range of dried fruit, fir cones, feathers and a bow for you to attach as you wish to the ready greened ring

Option Two: A plain ring will be supplied along with the greenery but you can attach this yourself in whatever combination you prefer.  Florists wire will be provided as well as the fruit, fir cones, feathers and bow for you to add yourself when you have made your ring.

Both options will be delivered to your door in a box along with written instructions and guidance on how to construct your wreath  A ‘how to’ video can be supplied on request demonstrating how to build your wreath.

The cost is £30 per box and these can be delivered to your door, or to a pick up point in the village if you prefer.

Payment with order prior to delivery and orders must be received by 15th November to give the florist time to make up the boxes prior to delivery at the end of November.

Adderley Village Scarecrow Trail

Thank you to Sophie Corner for her brilliant picture of a scarecrow which we have used for the posters and promotion.  Well done Sophie

Thanks to Iain Wilson, Michelle & Sophie Corner and Ken & Sheila Greetham  for being an informal committee to put this event together. Val Nash

The village is holding a Scarecrow Trail for 2 weeks from Friday 17th July and we very much hope that everyone, who can, in the village will take part.  We are all feeling a bit fed up with lockdown and limited lifestyles and a Scarecrow Trail will be something to look forward to. We can all do this from our own home but share with everyone else who follows the Trail.   If you haven’t been involved in a scarecrow trail before we have posted some links to ideas on how to make a scarecrow later in this article.

Just to reassure you, we will not be promoting the trail outside the community, it will be very much for our village community, as we know that many would feel uncomfortable with people walking in the village from elsewhere.  It will not be a competition, so we hope that everyone will feel able to take part and enjoy the experience with no pressure.

How can I get involved?  We are posting all the details of how to take part below, and there are posters up around the village and full details in the bus shelter for people who are not on the internet.  Please ask neighbours and friends who are housebound, shielding or with limited mobility if they want a copy picking up or printing off here.  We hope that everyone will feel able to take part and are very happy to help anyone who is shielding to set up their scarecrow outside their home if they need some help with this.

Event runs: Friday 17th July to Sunday 2nd August 2020

(Entries must be in by Friday 10th July 2020 and you must notify us if you want your entry to feature on the map we will be producing showing locations of all scarecrows)

Theme for adults entries will be    “2020”

Theme for children will be left open to their imagination

To enter you need to notify us on or before 10th July so we can add your scarecrow to our map for the trail .   We will allocate you with an entry number to display on your scarecrow and that number will be pinned on our map to show where your scarecrow is.  We will also photograph entries and put a gallery on the village website so less mobile folk can enjoy all entries.

We want everyone to feel they can take part, so no entry is too small   If you are housebound/shielding and want to take part, let us know and we will help you set up your entry safely.

Safety:We will ask you to place your scarecrow at, near or outside your boundary so that no-one comes on to your property. (please don’t block public rights of way).  People will be reminded to observe social distancing when on the trail and respect others. (We hope to offer places for those who live outside village or down long drives to display their creations so that everyone can enjoy them without invading private space—details will be on website or phone Paul  Nash on 07525 198 927 for more information) or contact him on email at webmaster@adderleyparish.co.uk

*If you need ideas and inspiration for your scarecrow there are lots of ideas on the internet but we have copied a few ideas here for you.
