Adderley BIG Switch On For Christmas 21

So I bet you are getting as excited as us now, and we want to give you all the details of Adderley BIG SWITCH ON event on Friday 3rd December in Adderley Village.

Santa and VIP guest Mrs Claus (how honoured are we?)will be jointly doing the inspection of the external decorations at your house starting at 6:00 to make sure there is enough light for Rudolph to see on Christmas Eve when he and Santa bring your presents.     So,  get cracking with the decorations, and please ask if you need any help with this or if you have an elderly neighbour see if they would like to take part and need any help – its nice to be able to take part.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be lights, you could just decorate a window or doorway with something Christmassy.  

The Route and plan

The inspection will start from Station Road, go over to Adderley Hall Barns, then down St Peters Close, back along Green Bank, into Meadow Bank, down Rectory Lane to the main road, back along Corbett Drive and onto the Green.  Please have your lights on ready for inspection from 6.00pm, the elves will be helping Santa with the inspection.    

Then at around 7.00 pm we will all gather on the Green for the BIG SWITCH ON.  Once we have duly admired our beautiful village tree we will head into and around the village hall to enjoy some festive mulled wine and, possibly, a hot dog or a burger and rumour has it that the school may have a stall with iced biscuits.  (Just keep an eye on the elves though, they do love a mince pie or 5 and they are only really allowed one! )

Update on the Adderley Christmas Lights, Poster Entries!

Well, we might have only had 3 children enter, but my goodness they were worthy entries.  We have some amazingly talented young people in the village and we were so impressed we decided that we couldn’t just use one for the posters, we would have to use all three! 

Thank you to Scarlett and Buster ( 7) and Amity (8)  Keegan for your beautiful posters.  You will see them up around the village, and we loved Scarlett’s reindeer so much that we have decided to use them as the header on the website promoting the Christmas Lights Event.

Decorating our tree and supporting the planet too!

You will remember last year that we invited everyone in the village to make a decoration to hang on the Christmas Tree on the Green.  In this year of focus on saving our planet and trying to be greener we would like to invite you to create your own decoration again.  So…….

  • Perhaps you would like to help our wildlife through the winter by making some seeded ornaments to hang on the tree for the birds to enjoy over the the winter.  
  • Or you may see alot of plastic waste in your recycling that you might be able to convert into a stunning Christmas decoration to remind us that we should be recycling our waste, 
  • or you may have a decoration that you were going to throw away this year that you think might cheer us up as we view our wonderful tree.  

The possibilities are endless but at the end of this article we are posting some links to a few ideas for you if you are like us and need inspiration!

Children’s Poster Competition

This year we’re hoping to light up Adderley again and there’s a rumour that a certain Santa may be paying a visit. To help us promote the event we would like the children in the village to design us a poster.

The poster needs to be A4 and contain the words:

Adderley Lights Up Again

and the date

Friday 3rd December 

The winning poster will be used around the village and on the website. All entries will be displayed in a gallery on the website for everyone to enjoy.

Closing date for entries is Friday 12th November. You can photograph/scan your entry and send it to webmaster@adderleyparish.co.uk OR your can drop it into the letterbox at Willow Lodge, Green Bank, Adderley. Don’t forget to include your name, age and contact details.

Quizmas Goes International

The special guest presenters are revealed. Yes, we’re going international for our Quizmas quiz in aid of Hope House Children’s Hospice.
