Santa’s Visit

Adderley shines yet again, this time literally, and Santa says it’s going to light his way this Christmas. We’ve got his official certificate so we’re officially Christmas ready.

Santa said he was sorry not to be able to speak to the children about what they wanted for Christmas because of the Covid Rules. Instead he has put a post box by the tree for any Christmas letters and he will send an elf to pick them up on 23rd December at the very latest.

One sleep, just one sleep until he gets here to check out our lights!   Who won’t sleep tonight?   

Lights are up, polished and shiny and plugged in and ready for inspection

Village Tree is up, decorated and lights are on ready for switch on

Santa has been in touch to confirm he’s definitely coming with 4 elves

Listen out for the Christmas Music as Santa comes round, and make sure those elves see your Christmas lights to check they are working well.  

He should be around between 6.30 and 7.00 pm so be ready

Listen…?  What was that…? No, too soon.  Get to sleep now.

 

Yes, we know, we can’t believe it either, but it really is only 4 sleeps now until Santa comes to Adderley to check out our christmas lights and switch on that beautiful Christmas tree for us. 

We thought we ought to just confirm the details for Friday now that we know what the new guidance is going to be for Covid.  

We’ve attached a map of the route Santa will travel, and he says he’s going to play lots of loud Christmas music, so you should be able to hear him coming.  As he comes past, switch on your lights so he can see them, and the elves can check them out.  Santa is starting his inspection at 6.30pm on Friday night; coming up Station Road, nipping down to the school and the roundabout for Adderley Barns, then back up to St Peter’s Court, then along Green Bank, into Meadow Bank, down Rectory Lane to the main road and lay-by, and then back up Rectory Lane, a sharp left into Corbett Drive, a quick inspection of lights up there and then over to the village green to check out the tree.  Santa says he should be at the tree by 7.00 pm.

Have you got children who are isolating and won’t be able to come out to see Santa?

 We know that some children in the village won’t be able to come out of the house to see Santa because they are isolating, but please let us know which houses these children are in, and we will do our best to let Santa know to slow right down and wave to them through the window.  Let us know by email to webmaster@adderleyparish.co.uk give an address and we will make sure Santa gets the information.  

Can I go down to the village hall to see Santa Switch on the Lights?

Christmas is a special time for everyone, but we hope you will understand if we ask that families with children are the priority for this year, and to avoid there being too many people, we are asking that only households with children go down to the village hall for 7.00 pm (as long as they feel safe to do so).  We ask that families stay socially distanced, and spread out around the tree so that everyone feels comfortable.  Santa and the elves will be wearing masks when they get to the village hall. 

All the grown ups can then amble down to admire our tree with its splendid lights at their leisure, after this, and then walk around the village in their family groups to admire the lights at people’s homes.  

 

A BIG thank you to everybody who brought their decorations down to the tree this morning. Amazing home made decorations that make the village tree look wonderful. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

If you’re feeling inspired you can still go down to the tree and add your decorations.

Ignoring the rain, the wind and the freezing cold a hardy band of volunteers spent their Saturday raising the Christmas tree in readiness for the Adderley Switch On next Friday. Now it’s all ready for the decorations which you can bring tomorrow, the 29th November, and place them on the tree or put them in the box at the bus shelter in Rectory Lane and somebody will put them on the tree for you.

There will be somebody at the tree to help you.

Oh my goodness!  Its getting closer!   SwitchOn is nearly here.  In fact its only NINE more sleeps until Santa is coming to check out our lights and Switch on our Christmas Tree.  I don’t know about you, but the excitement in our house is mounting all the time!  Decorations to make, windows to decorate and lights to put up in the garden……  Its just non-stop!

When is the tree going up for our decorations?

Its all hands on deck this Saturday morning (28^th Nov) when some volunteers are getting together by the village hall to raise the tree and anchor it in position.  After that they will put a temporary fence around the tree ready for you to come down on Sunday morning (29^th Nov) to hang your decorations on the tree. 

When can I put my decoration on the tree?

If you can come down between 10.00 am and 1.00pm on Sunday morning there will be someone there to help you but if you can’t make it then, please leave your decorations in the box in the Bus Shelter at the end of Rectory Lane and we will pick them up to take down and hang on the tree.  If you can put your name on your decoration that would be lovely.  Please make sure you have attached something that will allow you to tie your decoration on to the tree securely.  It can get very windy down there and we don’t want to lose yours.

What about the decorations at my house?

We really want everyone to have their Christmas lights and any Window Wonderland displays ready for the big SwitchOn on Friday 4^th December.  We think he will start his tour at about 6.30 on Station Road and then visit all the roads in the village from there.   Santa has been in touch and confirmed that he is definitely coming to inspect our Adderley lights display – so exciting.  He will tour around the village, with some of his elves and as he goes past he wants you to put on your Christmas lights so that he can check they are going to be bright enough for Rudolph to see on Christmas Eve. 

Can I go down to watch Santa switch on the lights on the tree at the village hall?

We would love to say yes!  But right now we are unsure what the rules are going to be about public gatherings, so we are suggesting that houses with children have priority, and, if they feel its safe to do so, parents can take their children down to the Green for just before 7.00pm, stay socially distanced and watch Santa do the SwitchOn.  We are asking all other adults to stay away, and perhaps come down later in the evening to admire the tree and amble around the village to see everyone’s lights and window displays in a safe and socially distanced way.
