Can you help Adderley Village Hall?

Village Hal

You may be aware that our village hall is not in the best of shape and needs a considerable investment to bring it to the standard we would all like to see so that it can be used to its full potential.

Before we make any investment we need to understand what the fabric of our current building is really like and exactly what is required to ensure it is structurally sound and fit for purpose.  As we consider potential projects we would like to understand what people would like from their community building in the future so that it can be considered in the design.

Do you have the skills we might need?

To ensure inclusion and effectiveness we would like to set up a working group with the appropriate skills and experience. The Village Hall Committee is very small and we know that we do not have all the skills required to make the most of this exciting opportunity.

With that in mind we are asking everyone in the village if they have, or know someone who has, the following skills or expertise that could join a small working group.  Whether you are retired or working, but feel able to volunteer a few hours of your time every month, we would like to hear from you if you:

  • have some project management experience to guide the group in the development of a project plan
  • have a background in quantity surveying or structural engineering
  • are an architect or experience in draughting architectural design
  • have some experience in community consultation and/or engagement
  • have experience in grant application and funding

Coffee Morning chatter

Well, what a lovely morning was had by all yesterday at the monthly coffee morning.  We had 27 people turn out to enjoy it.  Our chief cooks and bottle washers Maria, Emma and Beth did us proud with a lovely selection of cakes and Chris and Hilary brought and arranged some lovely jars of flowers to bring a bit of Spring into the room.   Beth only moved into the village in November so it was lovely that she offered to help out and to meet and talk to her partner John.

But best of all, was the people and the conversations and general buzz around the room.  Sometimes its just nice to get out and have a chat, and the last Saturday of every month is the place to do it in Adderley.  We took £60.45 which was marvellous.  This money goes into the Community Fund Bank account  and people from the village will decide how it is used to provide for the community.

Come and join us for the February one, Sat 25th Feb, 10.30 – 12 and lush cakes, coffee and good conversation along with a warm welcome are all guaranteed.

If you would like to get more involved in supporting or attending community events why not ask us to add your name to the Community Whats App Group we have set up for Nice Place to Be volunteers?  We currently have 30 people who share info about events, ask for help with events or contribute/volunteer their time to support on the app.  You would be very welcome.

What a wonderful place this is!

You only have to drive through Adderley to know that some very special people live here and make this a great place to be.  In the summer we all feel better when we see Barry’s beautiful flower pots planted and watered (with a little help from friends and neighbours) but at this time of year, the village is  ‘wonderful’ on steroids!

Barry and his team of “apprentices” transform the planters to include Christmas lights, and they don’t limit themselves to the plants and bushes.  Stand still long enough and you may find yourself wrapped in some cheerful Christmas flashing lights like the road signs!  All our lovely residents go to town putting up lights inside and outside their homes to cheer us all up too.

Thanks to a generous donation for materials from the Parish Council, the work and time of the very skilled volunteer Derek in making the shelves, and the dedicated ongoing organisation and help of Barbara & Lesley ensures the Book Shelter/ Bus Shelter Community Library  looks amazing and is there for all to enjoy on a give and share basis.  Its current Christmas theme and good wishes add to the feel good factor. (see pictures below)

But it doesn’t stop there!  We now have a wonderful nativity scene in the bus shelter near Station Road  thanks to Christine  Shaw’s creative talents.  If you haven’t seen it yet pop down and admire.  (see picture below)

The Christmas Tree on the Green and the lights around the village are supported by the Parish Council but erected by Iain and his team of helpers. Ken, Ben, Derek and Barry.  Santa’s visit and the event in the hall are supported by too many volunteers to name, but you know who you are and thank you!

A concert in St Peter’s on Wednesday evening raised nearly £400 of much needed funds for the Church and was enjoyed by many people from the village.

Still to come is the Carol Singing around the village, the Christingle Service and Carol Service (see the calendar for details of where and when and how to participate)

Thank you to everyone for doing their bit.  You are some very special people.

One more sleep!!!

Goodness me!  One sleep and Santa will be in Adderley to check out our lights and be cheered up.  We really need to make sure he is full of the spirit and magic of Christmas by the time he leaves here tomorrow evening.

So, have you got your red tag written with your good deeds and kindnesses listed so Santa knows how everyone in Adderley makes the magic?

Are you ready with your lights to cheer Santa as he comes past your house?

Can you practise the LOUDEST countdown ever, for the switch on of the lights on the village green?

If the answer is YES then I think we will have that magic Santa needs and he will fly home with the elves full of excitement.   See you all tomorrow and don’t forget your pizza for tea and a little bird tells us that there may be candy floss AND a Chocolate Fountain there tomorrow as well as a Teddy Tombola!  OOOH isn’t it exciting?

Regulation 14 Response Form

Picture of envelopes for Neighbourhood Plan

It sounds horribly formal but it’s not. We’re finally approaching the end of the Neighbourhood Plan process and the aforementioned Regulation 14 is the very last chance to make changes.

We’ve made a shortened version of the main document with all of the new planning rules set out. There are only 12 of them. A copy of the short version has gone to every house in Adderley Parish and we’re asking you to comment on any of the new proposed planning rules that you feel are important to you. That might be one or two of them or all of them but it’s very important that you do comment. If you want to read the full version of the Regulation 14 Neighbourhood Plan there are copies in the book shelter in Rectory Lane or you can download a copy from here:

You can comment on the enclosed form and put it in the postbox at the book shelter in Rectory Lane or you can post it at the Village Hall. Alternatively you can comment on line using the form that can be found here:

You have until January 9th to make your comments. If you want to have a look at the full Neighbourhood Plan then we have left copies at the book shelter on Rectory Lane.

Switch On only 10 days away! WE NEED YOU!

Santa and Mrs Claus

Well, its exciting times here in Adderley.  We’ve just heard that the village Christmas Tree (kindly provided by Adderley Parish Council) is being delivered and erected on the Green this Friday.  This means you only have 10 days from now until 2 December before Santa comes to visit us and remember we have to cheer him up.  Mrs Claus is relying on us to show him that we have a good christmas spirit here in Adderley.  Don’t forget to fill in your red parcel tag, delivered to every home (spares in the Book Shelter)  with a message about how you have kept the spirit of Christmas in Adderley.

Bring your tag and give it to Santa or hang it on the tree in the village hall on 2nd December so he can read it and know the magic is here and will make those reindeer fly on Christmas Eve.    WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU ALL!!

Coffee Anyone? ………with a little nip of something perhaps?

Its almost the end of November!   As we won’t be having a coffee morning in December we thought we would offer you a ‘festive’ coffee morning this Saturday 26th November.  So for those of you who are partial to a little winter warmer in your tea of coffee, the village hall is the place to be this Saturday morning 10.30 – 12.00.  For those who take their coffee as it comes, you won’t be disappointed either.  And our lovely volunteers are already busy making sure you have some festive treats to sample.  Mince pies of course but there may be one or two slightly different  festive  goodies to tickle your taste buds.  Don’t miss out!

Hope to see you there, and please check with neighbours and new residents if they have remembered and maybe offer them a lift down if the weather is unkind.
