Update On Trees For Captain Tom

A quick update on the post that Michelle sent us earlier this week regarding Captain Tom’s funeral on Saturday. It was a popular post for a little website like ours with over a hundred visits to the website and 26 active engagements on our FB feed.

Lots of people liked it but nobody had any thoughts on anything specific so if you are going to take a little time out to remember Captain Tom on Saturday we’re sure you will be doing your own thing whether it’s a flag, a victoria sponge or just taking a moment or two to stop and think.

Many thanks to Michelle for taking the time to send us the links (which you can at the end of this piece) and a reminder that we’re always on the look out for pieces of interest from the people of Adderley Parish.

Trees for Captain Tom

We’ve had a post from Michelle Corner who would like Adderley to join in with remembering Captain Tom whose funeral is on Saturday 27th February.

Captain Sir Tom Moore:

It was such sad news we received a couple of weeks ago about the passing of a truly great inspirational man; Captain Sir Tom Moore.

I read in the news yesterday about his funeral which is planned for this coming Saturday.  Reading on, his daughters had commented that Captain Tom had wondered whether the events in the last year of his life would lead to the requirement for more Victoria sponge cakes for his funeral wake!  Sadly, that is not to be as we all know that restrictions and keeping each other safe is still part of our everyday life, and as much as many of us I am sure would love to be there to give him the send off he truly deserves, we are simply not allowed!

Therefore, I wondered if you would all like to contribute somehow to acknowledging the passing of Captain Sir Tom on Saturday 27th Feb?  I wondered whether we could simply hang out our Union Jacks, or bunting for the day.  Make a Victoria Sponge cake and dedicate it to Tom, or even (if allowed) we could plant a tree in the village, (maybe a Christmas tree) and dedicate this to him, giving him a salute every Christmas the village get around it to turn on the lights and sing carols together.

Just a thought!

So what do you think? Let us know by clicking the radio button below.

We think remembering Captain Tom is a great idea.

Facts and figures from Hope House

1,948 children are living locally with a terminal illness right now. 3 of these families face the pain of their child dying every week in this area. We need to raise £6.5 million every year just to keep our hospice doors open, in Oswestry and Conwy.  We are caring for families in and around Market Drayton and across Shropshire so any fundraising that takes place is truly going right back into the community.

As reported in the media charities are facing an uncertain future as donations plummet and fundraising events are cancelled.

Hope House Children’s Hospices are not immune to the impact of the pandemic. We are a local charity who help children and families at the most distressing time of their lives and in order to ensure that we can be here for everyone who needs us it is vital that our local community help in whatever way they can.

In spite of our loss of income of over £1 million in 2020 thanks to our shops being closed and events being cancelled, our highly skilled nurses are continuing to provide end of life and critical care at both hospices. There is no doubt that the children and families need the support of Hope House and Ty Gobaith more than ever. Our supporters are making it possible for us to continue with our vital work in the most difficult of times.

We are also now facing additional cost of providing PPE equipment for our nurses and families, from the FFP masks, to aprons to scrubs to additional staff required to meet social distancing requirements. In times of reduced income, these additional costs are tough to bear. For one child to have sufficient PPE for 10 days, it costs Hope House and Ty Gobaith £780.00.

Since 2002, your fundraising efforts in Adderley have raised £1,754.15 which is absolutely wonderful. We are so appreciative or every penny that comes through our doors.

We can’t sing carols to raise money for Hope House Childrens Hospice this year, so we hope you will join us on the quiz with all donations to Hope House.  That would be lovely.

Community Housing Survey – Problem Being Fixed

The good news is we’re getting responses to the Housing Survey -Excellent! The more responses we get the better the results will be. Remember your views are vitally important in this.

The bad news, we’ve had a technical hitch over the weekend and some responders have been moved on to the prize draw having only completed the first 20 or so questions.

What are we doing about it? We’re moving quickly. The survey has been closed whilst our providers effect a fix and it should be live again by early afternoon. If your response has been affected, don’t worry we will contact you. As far as we can see it has only affected two or three people but investigations will tell us more.

If you’re not keen on answering online don’t worry you can fill in the paper form and just drop it into a letter box and it will be counted.

Don’t forget you have a chance to win £100 of groceries in the prize draw just complete the form at the end of the survey or the one included in the envelope. Remember your responses are anonymous and your views of very important to the neighbourhood plan so keep on sending in the forms or filling in the online survey.

The Big Questions Weblink Is Live!

You should be receiving your survey for the Neighbourhood Plan any day now. You may decide that you would like to complete the online survey instead of the paper one – great! You will need to go to the Three Parishes Neighbourhood Plan website using the link below and you can access the survey from there
