Halloween is fast approaching. Whilst this may be fun for most of us, it can cause others concern and anxiety. We need to ensure that everyone remains safe.
We have put together some advice for trick or treating,.
* Adults should always accompany children when trick or treating.
* Young people should never go trick or treating alone.
* Do not knock on the doors of strangers – only go to people you know.
* Never go into a stranger’s house.
* Always keep to well-lit areas. Wear bright clothing and always carry a torch. Remember road safety. * Unless pre-arranged, do not visit elderly members of the community.
* Be careful not to frighten vulnerable people.
* Keep your tricks within the law – anything that results in damage is an offence and will be dealt with as such.
* Please do not knock on doors where there is a ‘No trick or treat sign’.
Your Safer Neighbourhood Policing team will be on patrol on 31st, and in the days before and after. We will be ensuring that everyone has a enjoyable and safe evening.
Are you interested in the history of our community? Will you have a little bit of time in these long winter evenings in your armchair when you might be twiddling your thumbs and itching to do something bit more interesting than watching Soaps?
Well, if that sounds like you read on………..
As you know we have been gifted the most amazing collection of historical documents about our village by Geoff Butter. We have got Lottery Funding to preserve this and have finished building the Heritage website which you can view here.
We’ve had all the images digitised and we have thousands of them to add to the website – there are a small number up already but lots more to come.
We need your help to ‘catalogue’ them so that when they go onto the website anyone searching can find what they are looking for. It’s a fairly simple job to do and we are giving people training in this so that they feel confident to do this in their own home when it’s convenient to them. So if you use a computer already, a PC, laptop or Chromebook, and can spare a couple of hours to come to the village hall to be shown what we need it would be great to see you.
First session is set up for Friday 20th October 10.30-12.30 am at the village hall, but there will be others arranged if this is not convenient. Come along with a laptop or Chromebook but if you don’t have a portable one come anyway but let us know beforehand so that we can organise something for you.
There is one warning though – once you start looking at this material, you very quickly get hooked and forget what you are supposed to be doing as its so fascinating looking at how our community has changed and its rich history!
If you would like more info before committing speak to Val or Paul Nash 07814 071 254 who will be happy to explain it a little more.
For many, many years Barry has brought joy to all of us with his beautiful displays of flowers around the village and at the church.
Frequently Barry has been seen head down amongst his blooms, planting and tending his numerous pots and not only in the summer, at the end of the season Barry was once again replanting to bring colour to the village to brighten our lives during the dreary months of winter. Unfortunately Barry has had the misfortune to break his leg and is no longer able to tend to his flowers.
We all wish him a speedy recovery.
The Parish Council has stepped up and made a great contribution in purchasing some large tub planters which have been installed around the village.
Barry, our resident flower guru is now taking a back seat, so a call was made to volunteers to take on the planting and upkeep of the planters to continue Barry’s wonderful work. We are 18 volunteers, a big thank you to you all. Can you imagine that all this was done by one man!
What a fantastic service Barry has given to the village. His unwavering enthusiasm, his energy and tireless generosity over the many years is appreciated by us all and we, the residents of Adderley would like to thank him profusely for all he has done and for any plant advice he can give us in the future.
In May 2025 we will be holding our elections for Parish Councillors for Adderley Parish Council.
A number of our present Councillors, have expressed a desire to stand down and as such we will be looking for replacements.
The commitment for a Councillor is around 6 meetings a year at the Village Hall and perhaps a few extra elsewhere if you agree to sit on an external Committee that we are obliged to support.
We will also have a need for a “Web Master” to run the Parish Council website (adderleyparish.co.uk), they do not need to be a Councillor but be prepared to work with them.
If you are interested in becoming a Councillor or the web master, please be kind enough to register with the Parish Clerk (Jane Evans) at clerk@adderleyparish.co.uk.
If you have any questions with regard to becoming a Councillor or the web master, do please contact any of the present Councillors or the Clerk who would be delighted to discuss the matter.
Alternatively come along and sit in on one of our meetings and watch business being undertaken. Dates of our meetings are on the web site.
If you are interested in helping to improve your Parish then this is the opportunity.
Just a small reminder that the team who are helping co-ordinate the care of the wonderful array of planters around the village on behalf of Barry our Planter King, have invited you to come along to a short meeting after the Coffee Morning this Saturday to hear what is involved and how you can help. Please make the time to contribute to keeping Adderley the village with the best flower display in North Shropshire, or is it the West Midlands… or maybe even the whole of the UK?
See the flyer below for more information, and don’t worry if you can’t attend on Saturday, you can still help just let one of the team know on the contact details below.
