Its all happening in Adderley this year!

Over the next few days you should receive through your door a sheet of information about the ideas we have for activities over the summer in the village.  Here’s a copy if you have somehow missed out.

We really hope you will feel you want to be involved in some, or all of these, starting with the Painted Stone Hunt over the Easter Weekend.  It’s going to be a fun family or individual activity with lots of clues to find beautifully painted stones,  hidden around the village for you to locate.  When you find a stone, you replace it carefully in its location but use the What3Words App on a smart phone to note its unique location on your treasure hunt map.

What3Words is the App being used by emergency services to help locate people who are lost or injured and in need of help.    The emergency services are all encouraging as many people as possible to download this app on to their phones.  Its an amazing app which has created a unique ID for every 3 square metres in the world! Here’s some more information about the App for those of you who haven’t heard of it yet.

However, before we get to the Hunt we need some volunteers to paint the stones that will be hunted.  We would love some unique designs and hope you will be able to offer to do this for us.  Details are on the reverse of the sheet posted through your letterbox if you would like a stone dropping off to paint for us.

The clues are already being written and the map will be available nearer the Easter weekend, either downloaded from the website here, or a paper copy of the map can be picked up from the Book Shelter in the village.  We will let you know via the website and Facebook when they are ready to be picked up.

Adderley – nice place to be!

Ever Wanted To Be A Parish Councillor?

Village Hal

There are local elections due in May and this year there are two vacancies on the Parish Council. The role of a Parish Councillor is entirely voluntary and it’s a great way to give back to the community. It’s not onerous: meetings are roughly once a month on an evening. Out of lockdown they take place at the village hall. Meetings last about 90 minutes and we have the benefit of a Parish Clerk who makes sure we keep to the rules. There is some training available if you want it and that takes place in Shrewsbury when we’re not in lockdown. It takes about half a day.

Still not sure? The National Association of Local Councils are holding a short online event on Tuesday 2 March 2021 — 18:00 – 19:00

“Join viral sensation, Jackie Weaver, and a group of community heroes to discuss getting involved with your local (parish and town) council. Are you passionate about your community? Do you want to help make a long-lasting change? Do you have concerns about a specific issue and want to do something about it? This event will tell you what you need to know about local councils, and what they do, the role of a councillor and how to become one.

Speakers: Cllr Emily Benner, Croxley Green Parish Council, Cllr Rachael Pearson, Denmead Parish Council, Cllr Dan Thomas, mayor of Much Wenlock Town Council and Jackie Weaver, chief officer at the Cheshire Association of Local Councils

Host: Matt Chorley, presenter for Times Radio and Saturday columnist for The Times

NB: This event is part of NALC’s Make A Change campaign to encourage more people from all backgrounds and experiences who are undiscovered community heroes to put themselves forward for election.”

You need to register for the event (just one click) the details are at the link below.

Update On Trees For Captain Tom

A quick update on the post that Michelle sent us earlier this week regarding Captain Tom’s funeral on Saturday. It was a popular post for a little website like ours with over a hundred visits to the website and 26 active engagements on our FB feed.

Lots of people liked it but nobody had any thoughts on anything specific so if you are going to take a little time out to remember Captain Tom on Saturday we’re sure you will be doing your own thing whether it’s a flag, a victoria sponge or just taking a moment or two to stop and think.

Many thanks to Michelle for taking the time to send us the links (which you can at the end of this piece) and a reminder that we’re always on the look out for pieces of interest from the people of Adderley Parish.

Keeping Your Home Safe With Smartwater

West Mercia Police

In cooperation with West Mercia Police and “We Don’t Buy Crime” Adderley Parish Council has arranged for every home in the parish to receive a Smartwater pack. Smartwater allows you to uniquely mark the items of value in your home and statistics show that a home protected by Smartwater is much less likely to be the victim of a burglary.

See the following video by Cllr Iain Wilson which will explain more:

Trees for Captain Tom

We’ve had a post from Michelle Corner who would like Adderley to join in with remembering Captain Tom whose funeral is on Saturday 27th February.

Captain Sir Tom Moore:

It was such sad news we received a couple of weeks ago about the passing of a truly great inspirational man; Captain Sir Tom Moore.

I read in the news yesterday about his funeral which is planned for this coming Saturday.  Reading on, his daughters had commented that Captain Tom had wondered whether the events in the last year of his life would lead to the requirement for more Victoria sponge cakes for his funeral wake!  Sadly, that is not to be as we all know that restrictions and keeping each other safe is still part of our everyday life, and as much as many of us I am sure would love to be there to give him the send off he truly deserves, we are simply not allowed!

Therefore, I wondered if you would all like to contribute somehow to acknowledging the passing of Captain Sir Tom on Saturday 27th Feb?  I wondered whether we could simply hang out our Union Jacks, or bunting for the day.  Make a Victoria Sponge cake and dedicate it to Tom, or even (if allowed) we could plant a tree in the village, (maybe a Christmas tree) and dedicate this to him, giving him a salute every Christmas the village get around it to turn on the lights and sing carols together.

Just a thought!

So what do you think? Let us know by clicking the radio button below.

We think remembering Captain Tom is a great idea.

Important NHS Information – Dial 111 First

PATIENTS IN SHROPSHIRE, TELFORD AND WREKIN URGED TO CONTACT NHS 111 FIRST The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford are both dealing with high numbers of patients right now – anyone in need of urgent medical care in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin should contact NHS 111 first online or by phone.

Health advisors can help find the best place for treatment and give a time to come in if a face-to-face assessment is needed. The service, staffed by trained health advisers, will book the caller a time slot for the most appropriate service, such as our urgent treatment centres or minor injuries units, or, if needed, A&E (Emergency Department ) at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) or the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford.

By calling NHS 111 first, it will help the NHS manage the flow of patients when capacity in waiting rooms is much smaller than before, to maintain safe distancing and reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection. If the situation is serious or life-threatening please call 999 immediately. Likewise, if the condition is not serious, seek advice from a pharmacy or make an appointment with a GP.
